Salman Rushdie, as one of the most controversial storytellers of his time, has had a considerable impact on contemporary British fiction. In this lucid and rigorous introduction to one of the world´s most important and challenging writers, Stephen Morton places Rushdie´s fiction in the context of the modern postcolonial world. Examining Rushdie´s literary style, including magical realism, allegory and the cinematic, Morton situates his work in the context of wider debates about secularism, decolonisation, migration and political violence in postcolonial South Asia.
