Bury Your Dead

Sobre el libro Bury Your Dead de Ana Paula Maia publicado por Charco Press al 2026:

By the International Booker Prize shortlisted author of On Earth As It Is Beneath A roadkill crew in rural Brazil finds the wrong kind of body. Edgar Wilson has left his job as a slaughterhouse stunner. Now he collects animals killed on the road, transporting them to be processed into fertiliser. One day, the cries of vultures draw him into the brush, where he finds a woman hanging from a tree. He knows he is not meant to collect human remains, but nothing around him seems to function as it should. Neither the police nor the healthcare system can handle what he has found. With stark, economical prose, Ana Paula Maia builds a world where the boundaries between animal and human, good and evil, begin to collapse. As in Of Cattle and Men and On Earth As It Is Beneath, Maia returns to questions of death and dignity, searching for something sacred within even the most degraded forms of life
