Publishing

Sobre el libro Publishing de publicado por Macba al 2025:

Publishing is the opening number to a line of publications from MACBA’s Education Department inspired by the day-to-day educational practices within contemporary art and museums. This first edition in the Quadern d’educació (Educational Notebook) provides time to think about our experiences, share what we have learnt and to think about publishing as an artistic and pedagogical practice. As such, fanzines, stickers, conceptual maps, picture books and hashtags become gestures that cause us to reflect on the how, why, and to whom education is made public. Why the need to publish? How can we make ourselves public? What has been published so far? A set of essays proposes possible answers to these questions. Aida Sánchez de Serdio Martín follows the historic tracks of education in museums through a DNA analysis of its thoughts and historical moments; Macarena García and Belén Soto explore concrete methods for ‘publishing’. The first, in a text which investigates a rather singular artefact, the challenging picture book, and the second opens up the meaning of ‘publishing’ in the context of the internet era and social media; Lluc Mayol and Alba Oller review Massa Salvatge’s experiences with editorial processes conceived as educational projects, or conversely, educational processes conceived as editorial ones; and Camila González Simon turns our gaze towards fanzines as a community-building medium as sources of creativity and pedagogy. Finally, a series of footnoted images, which uses as a pretext different activities of MACBA’s Education Department, are interspersed throughout the notebook as a working tool to think about those same questions.
